ABOUT

ROUND is the alliance of Belgian Extended Producers Responsibility organisations. Our aim is to present our achievements in the prevention, collection, recycling and reuse of the various waste and material streams for which we are responsible. We provide a platform for consultation, study and exchange of information on all issues relevant to us and to society as a whole.

Both separately and together, we believe that circular economy is the basis for a sustainable future.

With ROUND, we make a joint commitment to the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle).  

Each of us is already working towards a sustainable future. By joining forces, we can have a greater impact. We promote the conscious use of products and packaging, and encourage recycling, repair and reuse to keep materials in the value chain for as long as possible. All this with the environment and the well-being of current and future generations in mind. We assume our social role on behalf of the industry, encouraging innovation, developing knowledge and sharing it widely. In this way, we contribute to a circular world.

Embracing the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, we advocate for a holistic approach to resource management that minimises waste and maximises efficiency. By promoting the circular economy, we aim to create a regenerative system where products are designed with longevity in mind, materials are recycled and repurposed, natural resources are protected, and the environmental impact is minimised. This paradigm shift not only addresses the pressing issue of resource depletion but also contributes to mitigating climate change and fostering a more resilient and responsible global community. We play a pivotal role in environmental conservation by holding producers accountable for the entire life cycle of their products and packaging. We promote responsible waste and material management and encourage resource efficiency through sustainable initiatives.

INNOVATION

We stimulate innovation by encouraging producers to develop sustainable and eco-friendly product and packaging designs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technological advancement in waste reduction and resource management practices.

EDUCATION

We positively contribute to education by raising awareness about responsible consumption and waste management practices. We promote environmental literacy among consumers and companies to bring about a change in waste management behaviour and encourage informed decision-making for a more sustainable future.

EMPLOYMENT

We create employment opportunities by establishing and supporting infrastructures, leading to the growth of a local green economy and the generation of jobs in waste collection, processing, repair and reuse and other related sectors.

Recupel is the non-profit organisation that collects and recycles used lamps and electrical appliances. We encourage people to have their appliances repaired and ensure that reusable appliances reach second-hand shops and recycling centres. Are they completely unusable? Then we send them to specialised local recycling centres to recover as many raw materials as possible.
ABOUT
PV CYCLE Belgium is the not-for-profit organization responsible for the collection and recycling of photovoltaic solar panels. As the sole management organization in Belgium, PV CYCLE Belgium ensures, on behalf of its participants (the companies bringing solar panels onto the Belgian market), compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility as stipulated by the legislation in the three regions. Focusing on efficient collection and high-quality recycling, PV CYCLE Belgium contributes to the circular economy and environmental protection. PV CYCLE Belgium asbl is part of an international network, represented by PV CYCLE aisbl, specialized in the collection and processing of photovoltaic solar panels in various countries.
ABOUT PV CYCLE
Valumat is the management body for extended producers responsibility of mattresses, established and financed by the sector, with the mission of collecting all discarded mattresses (cost-)efficiently and processing them sustainably. Valumat ensures that its participants comply with all objectives and obligations arising from the extended producers responsibility. Via a working group “design for circularity”, Valumat finances the search for collective solutions for the sector to stimulate ecodesign so that in the long term all the materials from discarded mattresses get a new life to close the material cycle within the circular economy.
ABOUT VALUMAT
The non-profit making Valorlub is the management body for the producers responsibility of lubricants and has been founded in 2004 by the sector federations Energia, essenscia (division LAB), Traxio and Comeos to undertake the practical implementation of the acceptance obligation of its participants. Valorlub has been operational since 1 January 2007. Valorlub strives to comply with all provisions, obligations and objectives derived from the legislation and the environmental policy agreements with the regional authorities.
ABOUT VALORLUB
Fost Plus is a non-profit organisation responsible for the selective collection, sorting and recycling of household packaging waste in Belgium. Through organisation, funding and communication, we implement the circular packaging economy. We recycle 95% of the household packaging on the market every year thanks to the efficient collection of glass, paper-cardboard and PMD. Packaging management has evolved firmly in the direction of sustainable materials and ressource management. To this end, we work closely with all parties concerned: companies, federations, authorities, intermunicipalities, collection, sorting and recycling companies and the general public. Fost Plus was established in 1994 on the instigation of the industry and commerce and operates in all three regions of the country. By joining the collective system of Fost Plus, packaging companies contribute to a more sustainable society and a cleaner world for all.
ABOUT FOST PLUS
The non-profit organisation Febelauto is the Belgian management body for both end-of-life vehicles and batteries from hybrid and electric vehicles. Febelauto has been stimulating and coordinating the collection, processing and recycling of end-of-life vehicles since 1999. It collects and reports all relevant data to its members and the authorities. In doing so, it monitors the environmentally responsible processing of these vehicles by approved centres and shredding plants. With a recycling rate of 97.6%, Belgium is among the top players in Europe and actively contributes to the circular economy. Since 2016, Febelauto has also been appointed by importers as the management body for end-of-life HEV batteries from electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. As the official representative of the automotive recycling sector, Febelauto plays a central role in advocating and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. We work with stakeholder groups and the three regional governments to develop policies that support the growth of the sector, minimise the environmental impact of end-of-life vehicles, raise public awareness and encourage the circular economy.
ABOUT FEBELAUTO
Valipac was founded in 1997 by the Belgian industry to provide a collective response to the extended producer responsibility for C&I packaging. We are the first European organisation specifically dedicated to C&I packaging. Our basic mission is to achieve the recycling rates imposed on our clients for the C&I packaging they put on the Belgian market. To achieve circularity of C&I packaging, we have made four commitments: encourage our clients to use circular packaging, guarantee the traceability of C&I packaging waste to ensure effective recycling, promote local recycling and, finally, further encourage the selective collection of C&I packaging from companies.
ABOUT VALIPAC
Bebat is a not-for-profit association (vzw) founded in 1995 by battery producers and ensures that companies can meet their legal take-back obligation. Bebat is responsible for collection, sorting and recycling. Bebat vzw gives used batteries a new life and is thus among the world’s best. At more than 24,000 collection points across the country, used batteries can be deposited free of charge. In 2022, Bebat collected more than 3,700 tonnes of batteries. The world of batteries is changing rapidly, bringing new applications to the market all the time. Thanks to our in-house technical knowledge and expertise, we offer a solution for every battery. Over the last five years, Bebat has already collected more than 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) batteries and had them recycled by the best recycling companies in Belgium and Europe.
ABOUT BEBAT
Recytyre promotes the sustainable use of tyres and ensures the efficient collection and recycling of worn tyres. To finance the collection and processing system, importers/producers pay an environmental contribution to Recytyre. This environmental contribution is passed on to the customer via intermediaries and end sellers at each new tyre sale. Recytyre is committed to giving every tyre a sustainable, valuable and environmentally responsible future.
