New in 2026: environmental contribution for electric vehicle batteries

From 1 January 2026, an environmental contribution will be charged on the purchase of a new electric, hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle for the future collection and sustainable recycling of the drive battery. This new contribution will enable the management organisation Febelauto to continue to guarantee the safe and environmentally friendly processing of these batteries.

Electric and hybrid driving is an important step towards sustainable mobility. However, just like traditional vehicles with combustion engines, this technology also requires a well-thought-out recycling policy. This is especially true now that the number of end of life EV batteries is set to increase significantly in the coming years.

Thanks to this new environmental contribution, Febelauto can continue to guarantee safe, environmentally friendly processing. End of life batteries are given a second life or are recycled to recover valuable raw materials.

The new environmental contribution for batteries is paid once when purchasing a new electrified vehicle or when purchasing a battery or battery module in the aftermarket.
