Black Friday is an annual tradition. Recupel and Bebat responded to this with a twist and, for a joint campaign, removed the “L” from the name for their special “BACK Friday” action. This was the opportunity for them to encourage consumers to return their appliances and empty batteries that are gathering dust in their drawers to a collection point, thus facilitating their recycling and reuse.
Temporary collection points in different cities and towns
Every family has an average of 30 dead batteries and 11 appliances with a plug or battery in their home. Whether defective or not, these are all items that consumers may bring in to Bebat and Recupel collection points so that they can be recycled and reused. Appliances that can still be reused are given a new home through local second-hand stores.
The two partners challenged consumers to collect as many of these electrical appliances, lamps and empty batteries as possible by handing them in at mobile collection points during the Back Friday campaign.
Reparations at the collection points
At each collection point, a qualified repairman was on hand to disassemble the returned appliances, safely remove the dead batteries from them and assess whether they can be repaired. Passersby were given practical tips on how to extend the life of appliances or how to collect them safely. A great opportunity to learn how to better maintain your household appliances so they last longer.
Bebat and Recupel plant trees as a thank you for collecting
By participating in Back Friday, consumers helped reduce waste, whether it was a button cell battery weighing a few grams, a refrigerator weighing more than 50 pounds, a scooter or e-bike battery, or an old kettle.
To thank everyone who made the effort to contribute to this major collection drive, Bebat and Recupel are going the extra mile to give something back to the planet by planting trees. This is a gesture for the environment and for all of us as it helps reduce our carbon footprint and protect our planet for future generations.
